Thank you for subscribing! Due to the busyness of Christmas for those in my profession, I decided to not send a December newsletter and resume updates when the new year began. I also decided to end the old year in gezelligheid, a Dutch word that is often translated as "coziness" in English. Since moving to the Netherlands, I have become well acquainted with this word, which is more than just feeling comfortable, pleasant, and warm. It is also feeling a safety, security, and joy that is similar to what David describes in the 23rd Psalm.

A few days after Christmas, I preached on the coziness that David shows through the image of a shepherd. In each verse he invokes a sense of care that calms the worried soul and drives out fear through depicting goodness and mercy as faithful sheepdogs. The Herdsman of heaven walks ahead with mercy and love, while the hounds of heaven follow behind and keep His flock by grace.

As I reflect on 2024, I see the coziness of the Psalm and am grateful for the safety, security, and joy of the Lord. These things brought many peaceful moments and strength for the not-so-peaceful moments, and they fill the unknown days of 2025 with a pleasant light of promise. I pray that you too would know this light as 2025 unfolds, and rest in the truth that you are covered and cared for by the Lord. And though I have no new articles for you this month, I wish you much gezelligheid and a Happy New Year!
